Abstract
Experimental tests of priority effects and light availability on establishment and growth of two submerged macrophytes (native Elodea nuttallii and invasive Myriophyllum spicatum) in artificial stream channels showed that increased canopy shading reduced growth but did not prevent establishment of either species; relative performance varied with shade level and planting order.
