Abstract

This before-after-control-impact study examined the short-term effects of mechanical macrophyte removal on phytoplankton, zooplankton, and macroinvertebrate assemblages across five sites in four European and African countries. Overall, macrophyte removal negatively affected biodiversity, particularly zooplankton and macroinvertebrate assemblages, while positively affecting phytoplankton.
